depth charge
12:51 PM :
boom.

i realize that ralph is quite opinionated, so my words here amount to little more than nothing, but one's religion is hardly the same as one's upbringing or heritage. jewish heritage does not equate to being jewish; jews who convert to christianity are no longer jews, strictly speaking. while they may still hold to their pride in having that ancestry, they will at the same time differentiate quite strongly the difference in faith and belief system.

my dad was raised catholic; he is now lutheran. one cannot say he is catholic just because he was raised that way (although he does like to say, in jest, that he's a "recovering catholic").

atheist and sometimes agnostic? that works, i guess. on those days when you don't know what to believe..

and to the point of materialism. having stuff - and knowing the value of said stuff - is all well and good. the crux is whether or not it rules your life. to quote tyler durden, "stuff you own ends up owning you."

by the way, laura, no problem. i was happy to come - as i always am. i too am looking forward to new year's. jason told me he's coming too, though i don't know if sarah will join him. i'll ask on thursday when i see him.
