how much fun this is! get the facts. or the other facts.

microsoft: windows is better!
novell: linux is better!
microsoft: nuh-uh! windows is better!
novell: yuh-huh! linux is better!
microsoft: nuh-uh!
novell: yuh-huh!
microsoft: shut up!
novell: you shut up!
microsoft: i hate you!
novell: your mother!

and so on and so forth, ad nauseum. you know, this is the problem with two-sided issues, and the same is true of politics (no, i'n not about to dive into that). you have propaganda on one side, and you have more propaganda on the other. the truth is more in the middle.

apple has released another update. this time we're up to 10.3.6. just a hundredth point version upgrade, but come on, guys. and with tiger just around the corner, they better know what they're doing. not that they have so far, with all the botches they've already done to my poor baby. yes, unix (*nix in general) is my baby.

speaking of apple stuff, is this not cool or what? i'm not really a fan of u2, but i love the front. i couldn't care less about the autographs.

i gotta tell you guys about something really cool i found at work on thursday. we've got this pentium 3 rackmountable computer. we inherited this thing when uncle hal bought out another company, i believe. nice specs, used to be a linux mail server, 800+ mb ram, but hm, only a 10gb drive and two cd-roms. the cpmputer itself was running some red hat distro (at least 8.0, since the boot loader is grub and not lilo), but it refuses to boot. anyhoo, nothing came with it. no restore, os, or driver disks. the only thing - and it was in one of the cd-roms like someone forgot it - was a knoppix 3.3 cd.

knoppix is a german distro, while gnoppix is an english-default gnome-based equivalent (fortunately, the language can be changed in the command-line boot options). both are actually based on ubuntu, but that's a hair that needs no splitting. knoppix uses kde and other window managers (i forget which all are on the cd), but i am most familiar with kde. well, i'm most familiar with gnome (since red hat linux 6.1, first semester of going to wctc), but since that isn't on knoppix, tough noogies, right?

now this bad boy could do some damage. for anyone who doesn't know, knoppix is a distro of linux, but one you load from cd. just pop your knoppix cd into any computer with bootable cd-rom capability, and you've got a whole 'nother os. if you're on a network, it grabs the first available ip via dhcp, and you're rarin' to go. i had my dad burn me a copy. i didn't just take the thing, because it might come in handy at work.

hoo boy, did i go on an os kick or what? three more days until firefox! speaking of which, here's another reason to switch.

i added a whole bunch of links and generally changed some stuff around on the sidebar. click around and see what you can see. :)

just for kicks, i went to ms's internet explorer community page. this is what i find. fantastic. you know, i half expected the page not to load in firefox, but it actually worked when i tried it. wonders never cease.

i never sleep. :) i changed the code at the bottom of the comments. now, instead of closing the comments section, it directs you to the top of the current post. it was really easy.
